I have practiced law in Virginia since 1999, and during that time I have handled many different types of civil cases. I have represented property owners (sellers and purchasers) in contract and title disputes. Both landlords and tenants have asked me to assist them with matters that range from residential lease issues and evictions to commercial property management and the special challenges that commercial landlords face.

I have filed mechanics liens for contractors, subcontractors and sub-subcontractors; I have also filed and defended the Circuit Court lawsuits that are necessary to enforce those liens. I’ve represented contractors over disputes and claims for payment that range from simple to complex, using my experience in negotiating the outcome or litigating through court.

Business owners have hired me to resolve disputes with co-owners and others so that they can go about running their businesses. I also have experience representing parties in divorces and in matters concerning their children’s custody and support both in complex litigation and in settlement negotiations. My experience representing small business owners and knowledge of the special challenges they face in today’s economy gives me a valuable perspective when representing business owners who are going through a divorce.

I have guided many small business owners through the process of forming, buying and selling their businesses. I serve as Registered Agent for numerous businesses in the Central Virginia area whose owners also consider me their company lawyer for the many issues and situations that arise all the time, and have drafted leases, contracts and other documents for their wide range of personal and business purposes.

Various religious congregations have sought out my advice and representation in matters including incorporation, seeking tax-exempt status, church trustee issues, and the purchase and sale of real estate.

I have helped clients who want to get their estates in order and protect their children and their businesses by preparing wills, trusts and other life planning documents for them.

My diverse practice frequently brings me before the Judges in the Greater Richmond area.

My goal for my clients is to give them good value for the money they spend on legal representation. Litigation is expensive and the results can be uncertain. Sometimes knowing when and how to stay out of the courtroom, and resolved to my client’s benefit without the need for a drawn-out lawsuit gives my clients the best results possible. At the same time, my varied and extensive background with different types of litigation and experience in the courts in the Richmond area provides reassurance to my clients that my courtroom experience will serve them well if going to court cannot be avoided.

Prior to joining Bowen Ten Cardani, I was a sole practitioner for four years. Between 2003 and 2011 I was a partner in the firm Rothenberg, Streeter & Tluchak, P.C., where in addition to my litigation practice I also practiced residential and commercial real estate law, including closings and matters involving real estate finance.

I was born in California, living in Los Angeles County before moving to Virginia in high school. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in dual majors, Spanish and Sociology. I attended George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia, where I graduated summa cum laude in 1999 and then moved to Richmond.

I enjoy running and bike riding, college basketball, and most important trying to keep pace with my daughter who is now in middle school. Go Hoos!
