Virginia residents who follow celebrity news may already be aware that a divorce between Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas has been in the works for over a year. However, their divorce was finalized on Dec. 4, 2015, after nearly 20 years of marriage.

The former couple filed their official dissolution in the Los Angeles Superior Court, and the divorce proceedings are said to have been civil. In 2004, the couple signed a postnuptial agreement that determined the division of income earned through entertainment projects between January 2004 and May 2014. This income would be considered community property. Any money made from projects before the agreement, however, would go to the actor who earned it.

Aside from income earned in entertainment projects, Griffith will get to keep a home in Aspen, along with jewelry, clothes, furniture, and six of the former couple’s vehicles. Banderas gets to keep a home in Manhattan, motorcycles, music equipment, and two of the vehicles. The pair sold one other property and split its value. Each former spouse will also get to keep one high-value artwork.

In regards to support, Banderas has agreed to pay Griffith $65,000 monthly. He also agreed to pay for the couple’s daughter’s expenses until she turns 19 along with her education costs through September 2021.

Those who are going through a divorce, even one that is not contentious, may wish to seek the services of a family law attorney, especially if they possess high-value assets. A lawyer might be able to aid a client in keeping valuable property during division or negotiating for child or spousal support.
