'Scandal' star accused of domestic violence, wife seeks divorce

Domestic violence is a serious problem that affects many families in Virginia and throughout the country. When a person no longer feels safe in his or her own home, seeking protection is extremely important. One way to do this is to seek a protective order against an abuser, which is exactly what the wife of "Scandal" actor Columbus Short did recently.

After trying to work through their marital issues, Short's wife has filed for divorce. This is the second time she has filed, and it seems as though it will be the last. The filing comes after a serious incident in which Short allegedly threatened his wife with a knife, saying he would kill them both. This is the third alleged incident of domestic abuse by Short, and a judge granted a restraining order against him.

Next month, a judge will decide whether to make the temporary restraining order permanent. For now, Short's wife is hoping to gain custody of the couple's 2-year-old child.

Choosing to seek a divorce and protect yourself with a protective order is not always easy. But especially when a child is involved, finding a way out of a difficult or dangerous situation becomes more urgent. However, it is important to understand that even if you are successful in obtaining a restraining order, the legal process will not end there if you are going through a divorce.

If you are seeking a divorce from someone who has been violent or manipulative toward you in the past, it is important to work with an attorney who can help make sure you are not taken advantage of. Whether child custody or property division is your primary concern, an experienced attorney can help you negotiate for what you want.
