K. Matthew Long

K. Matthew Long

Richmond, Virginia

Matt Long has represented individuals and businesses in a wide variety of practice areas since 2009. He more than anything sees himself as a problem solver. Matt's clients trust him with their most sensitive and pressing legal issues. He maintains an active general practice of law that includes personal injury, civil commercial litigation, business law, wrongful death, landlord tenant matters, drafting wills and powers of attorney, criminal law, and traffic infractions. Matt's clients value his approach to practicing law as he always sets honest and realistic expectations from the very beginning. In addition, clients are updated at every step along the way and all phone calls and emails are returned promptly. Because of this approach Matt has earned the trust of his clients and has a reputation for professionalism in the courts, with other lawyers, and with the public at large. In addition, many businesses have sought out Matt to serve as their registered agent and see him as a business partner they can trust and depend on.

Both inside the Courtroom and out, Matt's clients depend on him for his advice and representation with a wide variety of legal matters. Business clients have retained him to resolve contract disputes, defend allegations of defamation, and litigate claims of fraud and misrepresentation. Over the course of his career many Information Technology (I.T.) companies have retained him to litigate a wide variety of matters. Matt has a good understanding of the types of problems IT companies face and is able to simplify complex technical issues for the Judge. Matt has also represented many landlords in defending claims from tenants as well and pursuing actions for rent and major property damage.

Matt is also very skilled as a negotiator. Clients injured in an accident count on Matt to use his skills as an effective negotiator to get them the best results possible. Matt does not charge accident victims for a consultation to evaluate their case. His clients have received maximum recoveries for their injuries many times without ever having to file a lawsuit. Matt views his involvement with the insurance companies as a collaborative one where they are working together to do what is just and fair for his clients. The unique approach results in a quicker resolution for clients for more money than if the case was dragged out over time. Matt understands the value of relationship building and the relationships Matt has built with the insurance companies benefit his clients with very fair and fast recoveries. Many of his personal injuries clients have referred their friends and family to Matt as they value his approach and enjoy working with him along the way. During his years of practice, Matt has gotten numerous results over the phone that other lawyers can only get after spending thousands of dollars and having a jury trial.

Matt enjoys business networking and finds the relationships he builds through networking ultimately benefit his clients. He has the respect of his legal peers serving in the Young Lawyers Division of The Virginia Trial Lawyers Association since 2012. He has had the honor of being a member of the Lewis Powell American Inn of Court since 2013. Matt is looked to as a leader in these organizations and by his colleagues in the law, his family, and his friends.

Matt began working at Ayers & Stolte, P.C. while in law school in 2008. When he graduated in 2009 he became an associate and in 2013 he was promoted to partner. This was the quickest rise from associate to partner in the 30 year history of the firm. All of his clients have followed him to Bowen Ten Cardani P.C. as they respect Matt as a competent and trustworthy lawyer who is always looking out for them and has their best interests in mind.

Matt was born in Richmond but his family soon moved to Roanoke, Virginia where he was raised; he still considers Roanoke his hometown. While living in Roanoke he developed a love for Virginia Tech football and has been attending games regularly for more than twenty-five years. After graduating Emory & Henry College in 2003, Matt moved back to Richmond. He attended T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond where he made Law Review and became an Articles Editor. He graduated in 2009.

Matt got married in June of 2015 and he, his wife, and their two cats live in Glen Allen, only a few miles from the office. He enjoys his short commute to work.
